| Current Indicators of Financial Stability |
|
The data presented in the attached tables facilitates the monitoring and analysis of the financial stability of the Israel's economy. The first two tables provide indicators for Israel's financial system stability while the third presents comprehensive and detailed data on total credit (both bank and non-bank) in the economy.
Maintaining financial stability - ensuring the normal functioning of the financial system and the prevention of financial crises - has become in recent years a major responsibility of central banks and financial authorities. International organizations, the IMF in particular, and some of the developed countries' central banks are in the fore of the research and analysis of financial stability and the endeavor to increase awareness and transparency in this area. Within this framework, the IMF has published a list of indicators of financial stability (accompanied by a comprehensive guide to the definitions and significance of the indicators).
The IMF has also initiated an international project, involving 62 countries (including Israel), to promote the preparation and publication of comparative data on these indicators. As part of this project, the IMF published at the beginning of 2007 data on the participating countries:

Table 1 below presents the data on Israel according to the set of Financial Soundness Indicators devised by the IMF.
Table 2 presents the set of indicators used by the Bank of Israel to monitor and analyze financial stability, previously published only in annual reports. The table also presents indicators regarding the non-banking sector that are not included in Table 1.
Table 3 and 3a presents data on the composition of total credit in the economy by borrowing and lending sectors and by type of credit. Such data are particularly important for assessing the economy's credit risks and for the enhancement of credit market efficiency.
Detailed definitions and explanations of the data presented are provided below.
